[H2] Situation update in Samos \nCurrently there are 2,800 refugees and asylum-seekers on Samos, with almost all of them living in the Vathy RIC (Registration and Identification Centre) or surrounding unofficial 'jungle'. These difficulties are compounded by the fact that numerous donors are no longer able to deliver on financial commitments. The situation is extreme and the future of La Liane is at stake – as well as the health and safety of 500 children, 35 infants and many more women who will no longer have free access to legal aid! \n\nLa Liane is home to 53 children and its Women’s Rights Center helps women in vulnerable situations access justice and social resources. We need your help to continue to provide shelter, housing, nutrition and counselling to ensure the future of the most vulnerable children and women in Saint-Louis. Without your support these children will fall out of education, women will no longer have access to support services in case of violence and many of these families will fall back into extreme poverty. \nDespite the indispensable services provided by La Liane and the fact that local authorities as well as the local court regularly have recourse to La Liane for child protection and support to women victims of violence, the association does not receive any state subventions or payment for the services provided. Many of them are street children or children who have suffered abuse and have been placed by the justice system with La Liane. In La Liane’s Child Protection Center, these children receive support, healthcare, nutrition and access to education. In addition, a number of single mothers in precarious situations and their children (467 in 2020) receive financial support for schooling and health expenses by La Liane on a continuous basis. For the past five years, 83 young people have followed professional training thanks to financial contributions from La Liane and another 39 are still in training. 25 young people have finished their schooling and gone on to pursue healthy and stable lives thanks to La Liane.\nWomen’s Rights Center\n\nSince 2019, La Liane has stepped up its support to women and now runs a Women’s Rights Center where women can access shelter, legal assistance, counseling, contraception and support to access healthcare. In 2020, 76 women benefited from the support of the Women’s Rights Center and to date La Liane has supported 42 women to access justice. As there is no public legal aid system in Senegal, La Liane finances all associated legal fees and accompanies the women throughout the judicial procedures.\nTo support the most vulnerable and the homeless, La Liane also ensures temporary housing for a number of families in highly precarious situations. Currently 19 single mothers and their children receive such support. \nFree childcare\nThere are no free childcare facilities in Saint-Louis, meaning that many young mothers in vulnerable situations are prevented from pursuing their studies and work. To support these women, La Liane runs a free childcare centre for children between 4 months and 4 years of age. In these countries, the police broke up the demonstrations without resorting to mass arrests of heavy fines.\nThe fines levied on the climate activists in Oslo on the 21st September 2020 were significantly higher than the fines meted out to violent protestors in 2019. The situation is extreme and the future of La Liane is at stake – as well as the health and safety of 500 children, 35 infants and many more women who will no longer have free access to legal aid! \n\nLa Liane is home to 53 children and its Women’s Rights Center helps women in vulnerable situations access justice and social resources. We need your help to continue to provide shelter, housing, nutrition and counselling to ensure the future of the most vulnerable children and women in Saint-Louis. Without your support these children will fall out of education, women will no longer have access to support services in case of violence and many of these families will fall back into extreme poverty. \nDespite the indispensable services provided by La Liane and the fact that local authorities as well as the local court regularly have recourse to La Liane for child protection and support to women victims of violence, the association does not receive any state subventions or payment for the services provided. In 2020, 76 women benefited from the support of the Women’s Rights Center and to date La Liane has supported 42 women to access justice. As there is no public legal aid system in Senegal, La Liane finances all associated legal fees and accompanies the women throughout the judicial procedures.\nTo support the most vulnerable and the homeless, La Liane also ensures temporary housing for a number of families in highly precarious situations. Currently 19 single mothers and their children receive such support. \nFree childcare\nThere are no free childcare facilities in Saint-Louis, meaning that many young mothers in vulnerable situations are prevented from pursuing their studies and work. To support these women, La Liane runs a free childcare centre for children between 4 months and 4 years of age. Une suivi est effectué à leur demande.\nMaison des droits des femmes\n\nDepuis 2019, La Liane a renforcé son soutien aux femmes et gère désormais un Maison des droits des femmes où elles peuvent accéder à un abri, une assistance juridique, des conseils, des moyens de contraception et une aide pour accéder aux soins. En 2020, 76 femmes ont bénéficié du soutien de la Maison des droits des femmes et, à ce jour, La Liane a aidé 42 femmes à aller en justice.\nComme il n'existe pas de système public d'aide juridique au Sénégal, la Liane accompagne les femmes et adolescentes victimes de violences, enceintes parfois suite à un viol, tout au long de leur grossesse et dans les procédures judiciaires. Toutes les dépenses, étant assurées par la Liane.\nAfin de soutenir les plus vulnérables et sans-abri, La Liane assure également un logement temporaire à un certain nombre de familles en situation de grande précarité. Actuellement, 19 mères célibataires et leurs enfants bénéficient de ce soutien.\nCrèche et garde d’enfants gratuites\nIl n'existe pas de structures d'accueil gratuites pour les jeunes enfants à Saint-Louis, ce qui empêche de nombreuses jeunes mères en situation de précarité de poursuivre leurs études et de travailler. Pour soutenir ces femmes, La Liane gère une crèche gratuite, pour les enfants âgés de 4 mois à 4 ans. En 2020, 15 enfants ont bénéficié de ces services et 20 nourrissons (mères décédées, naissances multiples) maintenus en famille ont bénéficié d'un soutien ( lait, vêtements, soins de santé).\nFaites un don aujourd'hui et aidez La Liane à traverser cette crise.
